Applications have opened for the second cohort of advanced therapies apprentices who will be Level 3 Science Manufacturing Technicians.
10 December 2018
This is the second cohort of advanced therapies apprentices to be recruited as part of the first Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP) focussed apprenticeship programme. The programme is aimed at building the skills base needed to support the growing UK industry in the development of ATMPs.
Applicants of 18 years or older who hold GCSE (or equivalent) in maths and English at grade A to C or 9 to 4 will be able to apply for the Science Manufacturing Technician Apprentice role at a number of companies throughout the UK. Over two years, apprentices will work towards a Level 3 BTEC in Applied Science with training provided by CSR Group. They will also receive practical training while working for their employer and from a cohort of advanced therapy companies who will deliver advanced therapy specific training.
The UK has positioned itself among the early leaders in cell and gene therapies, and as the sector grows and therapies move towards commercialisation, there is increasing need for a range of technical, operational and clinical roles to support the scale-up of manufacturing of ATMPs and their adoption in the healthcare system. The ATMP apprenticeship programme is designed to build the skills base in the UK to enable industry growth. The first group of Level 5 Advanced Therapies Scientists begun working at eight companies in the UK while simultaneously studying Applied Biological Sciences at the University of Kent in September 2018.
