Level 6 (at end of programme)

48 months maximum duration in full or 24 months maximum duration for the fast-track version

£22,000 available through the Apprenticeship Levy for full. Significantly less for Fast-Track option. Employers that do not pay the Levy will fund 5% of the funding band maximum.

 

Targeted towards existing employees moving into a management role for the first time. Candidates should be line managing at least one person or lead teams in project activities.

Occupation Summary

Chartered managers deliver impact at strategic and/or operational level with management and leadership responsibility for setting and delivering organisational objectives through a wide range of functions. This includes strategic decision making, setting direction and achieving results, building and leading teams, clear communication, developing skills and motivating others, fostering inclusive and ethical cultures, leading change, project management, financial management, innovation, risk management, & developing stakeholder relationships.

Typical jobs include: Manager, Senior Manager, Head of Department, Operations Manager.

Apprentices can opt to take the full programme, or a shorter ‘fast-track’ programme, depending on their level of experience:

  • Full programme is approximately four years long and is geared towards people without prior management experience.
  • Fast-track programme is approximately two years long and is geared towards people who have been in a management role for at least two years prior to the start of the apprenticeship, and can demonstrate through the application process that they do not need to undertake the earlier elements of the full programme.

Knowledge:

Chartered Managers will develop a strong understanding of how to create and implement organisational strategy and plans, including managing resources, supply chains, workforce development, sustainability, risk, and quality assurance. They will know how to lead change, manage projects through all stages, and apply risk management models. They will understand financial strategies, budgeting, procurement, and legal requirements, as well as the changing commercial environment. They will be able to design marketing and sales strategies, identify target markets, and support innovation in products and services. They will also understand how digital technologies and innovation can improve operations, data use, and decision-making.

Skills:

Chartered Managers will demonstrate the ability to support strategy development and deliver operational plans by setting targets, managing resources, and measuring outcomes. They will produce clear reports using analytical methods and gain support to achieve results. They will plan and manage resources, monitor progress, and proactively manage risk. They will lead change by identifying challenges and applying project management tools. They will manage budgets, control spending, and produce financial reports. They will use customer insights to improve service and relationships, and apply creative thinking to meet customer needs. They will also identify improvements and growth opportunities through data analysis and benchmarking.

Entry requirements

  • Apprentices need to be in a management position that will allow them to achieve all the elements of the apprenticeship standard.
  • For the Fast-Track option, apprentices will need to either hold a Level 5 management qualification or have sufficient management experience to qualify for accreditation of prior learning. ATAC will discuss this with all candidates.
  • Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to EPA.
