15 months maximum duration

£5,000 funding band maximum available through the Apprenticeship Levy. Employers that do not pay the Levy will fund 5% of the funding band maximum.

Targeted towards existing employees moving into a management role for the first time. Candidates should be line managing at least one person or lead teams in project activities.

Occupation Summary

The broad purpose of this role is to provide leadership with operational or  project responsibilities. Team leaders manage or supervise individuals, teams, or elements of a project, or a combination of these. They offer direction, instructions, and guidance to achieve set goals. They are vital for the smooth running of an organisation’s functions and are often responsible for ensuring that these are correctly administered and maintained in line with legislation and the organisation’s procedures.

Knowledge:

Team Leaders will learn how to manage performance, projects, time, and resources to meet operational goals. They will understand how to identify learning needs and support improvement. They will know the rules, policies, and laws that affect their role and the organisation. They will develop skills in leadership, communication, and working with others. They will learn how to manage change, budgets, and promote fairness and inclusion. They will understand their responsibilities and how their role fits into the wider strategy. They will also learn how to use data, IT systems, and consider both internal and external factors, such as sustainability, that impact the organisation.

Team Leaders will demonstrate the ability to manage resources, plan and organise work, and use data to produce clear reports. They will support team growth through coaching and continuous learning. They will solve problems, make decisions, and use digital tools to manage and track projects. They will improve work processes, communicate effectively using software, and guide performance through clear goals and feedback. They will lead through change, apply strategy and policy, and ensure rules are followed. They will share information in different formats, work well with others, manage conflict, and promote inclusion. They will also stay aware of sector changes and use technology to reduce energy use.

Entry requirements

  • Employers can set their own entry criteria, but candidates should be managing at least one person, either through direct line management or through project management.

  • Successful apprentices can progress onto higher-level management and leadership programmes.
